There was a special task in heaven that only I could achieve,
I was so very tired and through your love you knew that it was time for me to leave,
I saw your tears as I closed my eyes but I just couldn't stay,

I knew it would be so hard for you and I knew that you would cry.
On the day we met you told me you would love and care for me,
and I would guide you and give you freedom it was so hard for you to see.
you cried that day and I wagged my tail and kissed your tears away.
I led you down so many paths and when I could no longer walk the trail.
You cared for me so lovingly in your promise you did not fail.
but as much as I knew you wanted me to stay I just had to leave.
You wanted so to have with me just one more Christmas day
and as much as I wanted to grant that wish I just couldn’t stay.
So that loving gift of peace and rest you gave to me on the day before Christmas eve.
You held me in your arms and whispered to me how you loved me so
and that you would miss me so very much but that it was time for me to go.
but I knew that one day I would see you again and I would kiss your tears away.
So Mommy when you think of me remember all the joy.
Forever in your heart I will remain your happy loving boy.

He then looked upon the earth
and saw your tired face.
to give you needed rest,
knowing that His garden
is where you’d do the best.
He knew you were in pain.
He knew that through His endless love,
your faith He could sustain.

but you do not go alone,
for part of us went with you
